Health and safety representative refresher training can only be undertaken with an approved training provider. Essential Training is an approved training provider (RTO) by the Work Health and Safety Commission in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 to delivery this training in Perth, Western Australia.
Course Outline
This course is designed for qualified Health and Safety Representatives who have previously completed the initial 5-Day training.
Health and Safety Representatives play a critical role as the communication link between workers and managers in the management of the day to day health and safety issues.
As of January 2022, a number of new roles and functions for Health and Safety Representatives were added as part of the new WHS laws and legislation in Western Australia, this training will cover in detail what these changes are. HSRs are entitled to attend an approved five-day training course in work health and safety and a one-day refresher course each year during their term of office. This is an important element in the HSRs maintenance of their skills and knowledge.

Entry into the HSR Refresher Course is available to candidates who have previously completed the initial 5-Day HSR Training course.

Duration
HSR refresher training is a one-day course that is available for each year of office after completing the five-day initial course. Under the Work Health & Safety Regulations, HSR’s are required to undertake one-day refresher training regularly to maintain current skills and knowledge (it is recommended annually or at least every 2 years).
If a HSR is re-elected, they are required to undertake a 1-Day refresher training course with an approved RTO within 3 months of the re-election.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand any recent legislative updates relevant to the role of the Health and Safety Representative.
- Represent employees in health and safety matters through your role as a Health and Safety Representative.
- Discuss risk management processes in the workplace on a range of health and safety issues.
- Clarify inspection responsibilities.
- Understand your role within the WHS committee meetings.
- Understand the role of WorkSafe WA inspectors and the issuing of Provisional Improvement Notices (PIN).
