Successful completion of this White Card WA course leads to a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the Unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

White Card WA – Course Information

This unit of competency covers the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work in Western Australia (White Card WA). The unit requires successful demonstration of personal awareness, personal safety, and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others.

It covers identifying and reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

This course complies with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation requiring induction training for anyone wishing to work in the construction industry or go onto a construction site within Australia.

Delivery Method

This is a White Card WA blended delivery course comprising of a compulsory online (e-Learning) component to cover course theory, followed by a comprehensive face-to-face practical session delivered in a classroom/simulated workplace environment.

White Card WA – Course Duration & Structure

This Work Safely in Construction Industry course is delivered over 6 hours and includes trainer-lead learning and assessment activities.
Some pre-reading and e-learning may be required for certain cohorts prior to completing the face-to-face component.

White Card WA – Course Entry Requirements

Essential Training has identified that clients will need to meet the following entry requirements prior to the White Card WA course commencement

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of enrolment.

  • Provide/obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

  • Provide photo ID at time of enrolment and prior to commencing the practical classroom activities.

  • Access to comfortable and appropriate attire including enclosed flat shoes, long pants and full sleeved shirt – for both males and females. 

  • Have suitable English language proficiency and Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills at least to the level of Year 10 or equivalent (demonstrated via the Essential Training pre-enrolment evaluation).

White Card WA – Course Resource Requirement

This course has an e-learning component or pre-reading materials and requires learners wishing to undertake this course to have access to the internet and a personal computer or personal portable device (such as a laptop/notebook/tablet) to complete theory or any online assessment components prior to attending the practical course day.

White Card WA – Course Outcomes and Certification:

This course complies with Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation requiring induction training for anyone wishing to work in the construction industry or go onto a construction site in Western Australia.

On successful completion of the White Card WA course, students will be awarded a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (and issued with a WA “White Card”) and will have gained relevant knowledge and understanding including but not limited to:  

  • Identifying health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Identifying construction hazards and control measures.
  • Identification and correct use of PPE.
  • Identifying health and safety communication and reporting processes.
  • Identifying incident and emergency response procedures.

White Card WA – Assessment

This White Card WA course is assessed using a range of assessment methods and tools including written/knowledge tasks and practical performance tasks observed by the Assessor.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer (CT) in White Card WA

Essential Training provides RPL and Credit Transfer opportunities to all students.
